One of the great things you can do with an old computer is to make a server from it. since i have one i thought why not creating a Router + Gateway + Firewall from it ? here is what i did : first off all i installed Debian Lenny on it. then read several tutrials . and started to work. The first thing was setting the Ethernet interfaces correctly (i used 3 old NICs). while eth0 is the first one eth1 is connected to Wi-Fi === Network configuration === my /etc/network/interfaces : auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 this was to set the eth0 as fixed ip (static). i edited my /etc/hosts as (on all the computers: 192.168.0.1 myservername.mydomainname myservername 192.168.0.2 mylaptop.mydomainname mylaptop === Samba Shares === i edited my /etc/samba/smb.conf (this is not a secure server !) workgroup = MYDOMAINNAME netbios name = %h server string = %h server this is the ma...

What Is Cygwin? Cygwin is a Linux-like environment for Windows. It consists of two parts: A DLL (cygwin1.dll) which acts as a Linux API emulation layer providing substantial Linux API functionality. A collection of tools which provide Linux look and feel. The Cygwin DLL currently works with all recent, commercially released x86 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows, with the exception of Windows CE. Note that the official support for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me will be discontinued with the next major version (1.7.0) of Cygwin. What Isn't Cygwin? Cygwin is not a way to run native linux apps on Windows. You have to rebuild your application from source if you want it to run on Windows. Cygwin is not a way to magically make native Windows apps aware of UNIX ® functionality, like signals, ptys, etc. Again, you need to build your apps from source if you want to take advantage of Cygwin functionality. ok and at the end were to get that click >> and the home page of the p...

Samsung Electronics announced today that it has developed the world's fastest memory, a GDDR5 (series five, graphics double-data-rate memory) chip that can transfer data at six gigabits per second, which is more than four times faster than that of memories in state-of-the-art game consoles today. Graphics memory is installed in desktop PCs, notebooks, workstations and game consoles to move huge volumes of video or animated images simultaneously. Samsung's GDDR5, which will be introduced at a density of 512 Mbit (16Mb x 32) chips, is capable of transmitting moving images and associated data at 24 gigabytes per second. We're pushing image enhancement to a limit never before realized, enabling the smoothest, clearest animation that gamers have yet to experience," said Mueez Deen, Marketing Director, Graphics Memory, Samsung Semiconductor. "Samsung's 512Mb GDDR5 will enable the kind of graphics hardware performance that will spur software developers to deliver a ...
